Rhetorical Analysis: Advertisement (still)

ADVERTISEMENT READS:
I Take My Family Everywhere I Run.
I hear from them at least once a mile. Luckily, T-Mobile proved my signal strength, street by street, before I signed up. Which is important, if I get a crisis call about a missing binkie. When it comes to my coverage, T-Mobile works great.
T-mobile. Stick Together.
Prove your signal at a store or t-mobile.com/coverage

ENTHYMEME - Switching to T-mobile makes it easier to stay connected with those you love because switching to T-mobile means you will have more areas of cell phone coverage.

1. ARGUMENT – This advertisement is trying to get mothers to switch their families phone company to T-mobile because they have better converge than other companies.

2. AUDIENCE - This advertisement was found in "People Magazine."This magazine is all about celebrity gossip and the latest fashion trends, so this magazine is directed toward people ages 18-25 or 30. However, this advertisement is directed toward those that have families, specifically the mothers. I also feel that it is more for those mothers that feel that they can't have a minute to themselves to even exercise because their family comes first.

3. GOAL - The goal of this advertisement is to get the audience to compare T-mobile's cell coverage to their current cell phone provider.

4. HOW THE ARGUMENT IS MADE -
- Ethos (authority): This advertisement comes directly from the T-mobile company themselves, so one would automatically assume that all of the information is correct. The fact that they allow the possible customers to compare their coverage “street by street” to their current company, T-mobile feels confident that the audience will be so satisfied that they will want to T-mobile.

- Pathos (emotional): This advertisement tries to tell mothers that it is okay to have a selfish moment if they switch to T-mobile because with the consistent coverage they can take their phones with them wherever they go and never miss a “crisis” phone call! However, there are mothers that don't want to be contacted all the time. Though the occasional “crisis call” is acceptable, calling “every mile” may be too much for them. She may feel like her family is too dependent on her and can't function without her.

- Logos (logical): There is such a big fuss being made these days about what the best way to look great and in shape. Since the younger audience is very aware of their physical appearance, this is something that is often talked about in “People Magazine”. This advertisement tells mothers that its okay to go on a run because you can still take care of your family while not physically present.

5. IS THE ADVERTISEMENT EFFECTIVE - I feel that overall, the argument and advertisement is effective. However, there is one argument that may deter women from switching to this company: The fact that mother's may not want to be contacted by their family "every mile" when they go for a run! But even if they do switch to T-mobile because of this ad, this is easily remedied - leave the phone at home!
